CLIENT is an invention company--a U.S. investment/market analysis company founded in Year 2000 by a former CTO of Microsoft.. The company is headquartered in the U.S. Northwest.
CLIENT conceives and patents its own inventions in-house through a staff of internal and external scientists and engineers. They also acquire and license patented inventions from other inventors around the world. These inventions span a diverse range of technologies, including: software, semiconductors, wireless, consumer electronics, networking, lasers, biotechnology and medical devices. The company’s current focus is on developing its invention portfolio. The company makes money by marketing their portfolio on a broad and non-exclusive basis through a variety of channels including spin-out companies, joint-ventures with other companies and/or licensing inventions to product development organizations. The company is NOT a ‘patent troll’ that seeks to use patent litigation as a primary way to gain revenue.
CLIENT is implementing the vision of an internationally distributed Portfolio Development group (“PDG”, by recruiting individuals from all over Asia to join the PDG team in Seoul and develop the team’s strategy and interface specs with the rest of CLIENT.

Reports to: Global Head of Portfolio Development
Description and Role:
- Manages one or more CLIENT portfolios by identifying investments areas that are valuable to invent in, and by determining relevant problems and scenarios for various markets and technologies.
- Designs and delivers a schema and analysis to support the point of view of the portfolio development group (PDG). The portfolio manager owns the roadmap for inventions in one or more areas, and is responsible for ensuring that topics and RFIs are generated and distributed.
- Works with Invention Development Managers (IDMs) to source inventions to fulfill the goals of the portfolio schema.
- Responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining a portfolio budget that accounts for prosecution capacity, invention development costs, and for allocating / approving specific RFI budgets against the overall portfolio budget
- Will build and adjust budgets and portfolio roadmaps, utilizing the resources of investment analysts to support the PDG’s points of view, and the assistance of invention appraisers for single-RFI and all-RFI triage sessions.
- Responsible for managing relationships with IDMs to drive the development of clusters needed to fulfill portfolio investment needs.
- Portfolio managers invest--their roadmap and portfolio composition must link to licensing opportunities and an understanding of our customers - both in terms of how to position a portfolio to a customer, and to build feedback loops for better portfolio construction.
- Extensive international travel required.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years work experience at the intersection of technology and business
- Academic degrees in science/technology with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a technical field. In addition, MBA or equivalent functional work experience
- Experience and knowledge in all or many of these areas: R&D, product development, project management, marketing, finance, leadership, and intellectual property
- Ideal Candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and skill in making technology presentations to diverse audiences of various expertise.
